It is divided into two divisions, the Operation Services Division, and the Technical Services Division. The Bureau of Police, which is accredited by the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, has an authorized complement of 60 sworn officers headed by a Director of Public Safety. Two major north-south interstates, I-83, and I-81, intersect and have interchanges within the Township. Route 22, a major business and shopping destination for metropolitan Harrisburg and beyond. The Township is over 28 square miles, dissected by U.S. Lower Paxton Township is now the most populous municipality in Dauphin County, exceeding that of Harrisburg, the state capital. Lower Paxton Township is the 13 th largest municipality in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania home to 53,500 people of divers racial, ethnic, and socio-economic makeup and is located about six miles from Harrisburg. Lower Paxton Township is a township of the second class in Dauphin County.
